ANZAC Bridge

Finally... there are 2 bronze statues on the ANZAC bridge in Sydney...

Now here is my dig...

The New Zealand soldier wears a hat that is called a lemon squeezer and the Australian soldier wears a slouch hat and there is a slight difference in the uniform. Our soldier is also rumoured to be two inches [50milli- metres] taller than the Aussie soldier because of his hat.

After eight years of standing alone at the western end of the Anzac Bridge, the statue of an Australian digger was finally joined by a 4.2-metre bronze memorial on the eastern end showing a New Zealand digger bowed in silent reflection.

"Now he (the Australian digger) is joined by his mate, symbolising the extraordinary and close friendship between New Zealand and Australia in times of war and peace," Ms Clark told the gathering.

"Today, we reaffirm the bonds which exist between our two countries - and resonate strongly to this day."

Sculptor Alan Somerville's soldiers are both depicted in the "resting on arms position" with their weapons pointed downwards, a position used to remember the fallen.
